Marriage Coaching & Counseling

Marriage Coaching and Counseling

Both coaching and counseling are offered through RESTORE.

Marriage Coaching vs. Counseling:  What’s the difference?

Coaching for couples, whether married or not, is about practical skills to move forward – in communication and in their interactions.  Coaching is not focused on the past or on mental health challenges. Most couples fall into this category.

Often people call us for a marriage coach or counselor when their relationship is in crisis. Others call to simply improve their relationship, or seek to address issues proactively, before they get married, or when conflicts arise. During meetings, the focus is on three entities: you, your spouse, and your marriage.  In this way, issues in the marriage and with the two individuals are addressed. It is important to work with all three to be successful.

Sometimes, however, counseling is required in order to help address deeper issues for either of the individuals separately and/or in the relationship.  As a licensed marriage and family therapist, professional counselor, and experienced life coach, Coulter offers a unique blend of both approaches when appropriate. Lauren is trained in marital and mental health coaching.

Premarital Coaching

Premarital coaching involves a couples assessment and coaching to identify and improve strength and growth areas in the relationship.  This assessment and coaching meets the diverse needs of clients and is customized to the couple. Sessions are designed to gain understanding in strength and growth areas, and provide proven relationship skills.

This approach helps couples:

  • Explore strength & growth areas
  • Strengthen communication skills
  • Identify & manage major stressors
  • Resolve conflict
  • Develop a more balanced relationship
  • Explore extended family issues
  • Enhance intimacy
  • Establish personal, couple, and family goals
  • Understand & appreciate personality differences
  • Foster & strengthen a secure attachment bond
